Educators at all levels play a critical role in preparing the next generation of Kansans for gainful employment and success in life. Kansas K.S.A. 74-50,233-234 authorizes the Kansas Department of Commerce to develop grant programs that support eligible Teacher Educator Apprentices in their hands on training to fill critical and in-demand teaching jobs in our state. This piece of legislation allocates a total amount of 3 million dollars to be awarded to registered teaching apprentices in programs all over the state of Kansas.

What is the A2E Grant? 

• $2,750 in tuition reimbursement EACH registered teacher apprentice
• Employers have NO LIMIT on eligible apprentices
• DAY 1 ELIGIBILITY! Apprentices are eligible on day one of their registered apprenticeship
• Apprentices are eligible for this grant for up to four years
• Reimbursement grants are based on Calendar Year (January 1 – December 31)

Eligible employers and applicant schools are encouraged to apply for this funding on behalf of their registered teaching apprentices. There is no cap on the number of apprentices who may apply. The use of grant funds must go toward an apprentice’s tuition, fees, and the cost of books and materials, up to a maximum of $2,750 per year for a duration of four years. Teacher Apprenticeship Grant funds will be reimbursed twice per year and require other documentation such as invoicing to show active scholarships, such as PELL or USDOL/MeadowLARK funding. REQUIRED STEPS FOR APPLYING FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP TO EDUCATOR GRANT:

1. Gather appropriate forms for each eligible Registered Apprentice you are requesting the grant:

a. Registered Apprenticeship Agreement (ETA-671 form) – fully signed and executed by all parties

b. Educational invoices, tuition statements, and receipts- including all financial supports and assistance

c. W-9 signed by the employer (not the employee W-9)

d. Sexual Harassment Policy Form, OPC, ACH Form – Authorization for Electronic Deposit of Supplier Payment and copy of voided check or bank letter

i) All forms listed can be downloaded, updated, and uploaded

2. Fill out the online A2E Application and upload all required documentation.

3. Once all documentation is finalized, Kansas Department of Commerce will send a final Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) document through DocuSign. Funds will not be released until all documentation is completed.
